while sitting in my first middle school classroom, as the teacher this time…

…i began asking myself pleanty of questions like “What did i do to substitutes as a student?”, and “how is it possible that ‘the creed’ is still invoked as a form of punnishment for being disrespectful to teachers and students?” and of course “will students always ask eachother the same trivial bs like ‘is black a shade or a color’ and will boys always wonder whether to love of hate the opposite sex?”. We can all talk about how kids are different today, and how its a whole new ballgame in the schools than it was when we were “that age”, but i came to the stark realization today that things are not all that different, and when qualifying kids behaviors we must try and ask ourselves what we were like at that age because chances are we weren’t that far off. Considering the realities that times and circumstances are vastly different than they were ten years ago, I think we may actually be able to say that the kids are better than we were…given the times and circumstance.
